I am Alexia Kountouri from Cyprus. I am 37 years old. I had a stroke in May 2015. My right side was paralyzed.

Ι am the Ambassador of Stroke in Cyprus and vice-president of AIA standing next to stroke survivor and their families.

Being a stroke survivor, I have spent some time to get familiarised with my disability and develop my ways of adapting, coping and solving problems. I believe that this attitude has contributed to my positive approach to life.

My educational background included an MSc in Social Research Methods from Sussex University in UK. I have a BA in Social Work from Frederick University in Cyprus and Belgium a graduate certificate in Entrepreneurial Spirit Improving European Welfare of De Hogeschool West – Vlaanderen, Brugge, Belgium.

I am focusing on raising awareness and educating others on stroke in young people. I am particitating in various conferences and sessions related to stroke and aphasia and I am involved in research team such as PPI by promoting in involvement of patient and public to include people with aphasia as research partners.

I hold a wide range of interests and hobbies. Some of my favourites are yoga, and create a blog for young survivors and reclaiming their lives after stroke. I am sociable, enthusiastic and outgoing person.
