Helena Heffernan is the Young Stroke Survivors Network Manager at the Irish Heart Foundation. With over 22 years of experience in business, leadership and community development, Helena has spent the past nine and a half years supporting stroke survivors and their families throughout their recovery journey. 

Helena has been instrumental in developing the Irish Heart Foundation’s younger stroke support network for members of working age. Her delivery of supports emphasises rehabilitation, compassion, and building a strong foundation for community-centred care. Under her leadership, the programme has grown into a nationwide service, incorporating key elements such as information and education, rehabilitation programmes, exercise therapies, and emotional supports such as counselling and peer support. Helena has always ensured the members’ voices are at the core of all the supports offered, engaging in regular focus groups and research.
